What is Profhilo?
Profhilo treatment uses patented hybrid NAHYCO® technology for bio-remodelling of the skin. This distinctive process results in a highly stabilised Hyaluronic Acid gel that is much more resistant to enzymatic degradation. Profhilo treatments exerts a prolonged stimulating and bio-remodelling action on skin cells, firms skin laxity and hydrates from within. Profhilo is developed from IBSA, a pharmaceutical company based in Lugano, Switzerland.

What is NAHYCO Technology?
The NAHYCO technology hybrid process combines High and Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) complexes in 3 phases. These processes result in a stable, long-lasting HA gel with a high concentration.
Phase 1: 32mg High molecular weight HA (1100-1400 KDa) is combined with 32mg Low molecular weight HA (80-110 KDa)
Phase 2: Through a thermal process, hydrogen bonds are broken which allow the chains of the high and low molecular weight HA to unite.
Phase 3: During the cooling process, a newly stabilised hybrid cooperative complex is formed. This stable and long-lasting HA can resists hyaluronidase (an enzyme that breaks down HA) for a longer duration. Profhilo HAs can remain in the skin for about 28days.
Profhilo Unique Characteristics
There are noteworthy characteristics that make Profhilo treatment different from other HAs in the market. These include:
- High concentration of hyaluronic acid (64mg/2mls)
- Natural structure that is thermally stabilized
- Duration in skin is comparable to that of low cross-linked gel.
- No BDDE (1,4-butanediol diglycidyl) or other chemical cross-linked agents added.
Profhilo Reviews: Bioremodelling Effects
During Profhilo treatment, the HA is injected into specific areas of the skin. This allows optimal and homogenoues diffusion into the epidermal, dermal and subcutaneous compartments of the skin. The high cohesivity index of the HA during Profhilo treament ensures that it is integrated well within skin tissues.
The low molecular weight HAs attracts water and hydrates the skin, providing the Hydro effect. On the other hand, the high molecular weight HA volumizes the skin by providing a stable dermal scaffold, the lifting effect. This hybrid HA therefore creates a Hydro-lifting action on the skin.
Once the HA is integrated within the skin, it promotes extracellular bioremodelling, stimulates 4 types of skin collagen (type I,III,IV and VII) and elastin. The supportive role of the hybrid HA complex maintains viability of skin cells (e.g. keratinocytes in the epidermis, fibroblasts in the dermis and adipocytes in the fat layer) This increased elasticity and hydration of the skin layers creates a lifting effect.
Profhilo is Not a Filler or Skinbooster
Profilo treatment is considered a bioremodelling therapy. This unique stabilized hybrid cooperative HA complex has different biological properties when compared to monotherapy with either High or Low molecular weight HAs. The resistance to enzymatic degradation, slow release action and biocompatibility properties makes it different from the standard HAs in today’s market.
The slow release action of Profhilo treatment provides hydration at the epidermal layer and enhances volume within the dermal architecture. There is an up-regulation of the 4 main types of collagen. There is an increased expression of type I and III collagen in fibroblasts and type IV and VII in keratinocytes. In addition, elastin and natural HAs within the skin are stimulated. This multimodal effect increases hydration, elasticity and lifting effect of the skin.
Profhilo Treatment Technique - BAP Technique
For facial Profhilo treatment of the face, 5 Bio Aesthetic Points (BAP) on each side of the face are selected. These points are selected based on safety, diffusibility and a reduction of side effects to maximise treatment comfort.
Compared to skin boosters treatment, where there can be more than 30-50 injection points, a facial Profhilo treatment uses only 10 injection points. This reduces the risks of bruising, swelling and discomfort for most busy individuals. Likewise, for neck profhilo treatments, only 10 injection points are required.
Profhilo Treatment Experience
A consultation is the first step towards your profhilo treatment in Singapore. Just before your treatment, your face and/or neck is cleansed and a numbing cream is applied for your comfort.
After marking the relevant Bio-Aesthetic-Points using the BAP technique, a slow injection is introduced. A temporary swelling is observed at the injection points which will typically resolves within a day. Bruising and discomfort is minimal and transient in most instances.
Profhilo Treatment Protocol
The first 2 Profhilo treatments are done at an interval of 1 month apart. Thereafter, maintenance treatment is carried out every 6-9 months.
Compared to skin booster which typically require 3-4 session within a year, the Profhilo treatment protocol require lesser sessions for busy individuals.
Moreover, the volume of Profhilo is 2mls/syringe. The high HA concentration with its slow release action helps restore skin elasticity, volumize and generates a lifting effect.
As HAs have a hydrophilic nature (water loving property), the hydrating effects are noticeable from the first week. Thereafter, as a result of the bioremodelling process, collagen and elastin synthesis, the lifting and rejuvenating effects are observed from 4-6 months.
The stabilized hybrid cooperating complex of the HA reduces enzymatic degration. Treatment results lasts up to 1 year. A maintenance treatment every 6-9 months is recommended.
Lasers are commonly used to treat facial hyperpigmentation such as freckles, melasma and sun spots.
When combining laser treatments with Profhilo treatment, we would do the laser treatment first with a mandatory skin cooling thereafter before your Profhilo treatment. This ensures that excess heat produced by the laser does not compromise the product.
While Profhilo treatment helps to rejuvenate the skin, it cannot address all your skin care issues. Botulinum injections are still the gold standard for dynamic wrinkles affecting the forehead, frown lines and Crow’s Feet.
We recommend doing the Botulinum toxin treatment first, then the Profhilo treatment 2-4 weeks later so that the effects are stabilized.
A consultation is necessary before any treatment. We would need to explore what type Filler injection you had, and when it was given.
Although Profhilo is biocompatible, BDDE-free and does not contain chemical cross-linked agents, we are of the opinion that there must be a gap of at least 4 weeks from your last filler treatment.
The current indication is for the lower two-thirds of the face and neck for skin rejuvenation.
There are case studies of doctors using Profhilo either as monotherapy or combination therapy for atrophic scars, facial acne scars and post surgical scars on the lower limbs. There are also preliminary reports of Profhilo as a complementary therapy for the management of atopic dermatitis. These results although encouraging are considered off-label for the moment.

After injection, a transient swelling at the Bio-Aesthetic-Points will fade within a day. Some individuals experience mild itchiness that is temporary. As with all injectable treatments, there may be bruising that can take up to 2 weeks to fade.
