What is PDRN S for Acne Scars?

PDRN S Acne Scars treatment in Singapore is a bio-stimulant that uses high viscosity long chain polynucleotide (PN) to restore and reconstruct skin scars. Based on patented DNA Optimisation Technology (DOT), polynucleotide provides a structural scaffold to induce wound repair, enhance collagen synthesis and promote dermal remodelling.

Approach

PDRN S for Acne Scars

PDRN treatment, utilising polynucleotide (PN) injections derived from salmon DNA, offers a non-invasive alternative for skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing concerns. With over 15 years of clinical experience across multiple skin care disciplines, Dr Ng helps deliver PDRN treatments to foster collagen synthesis, promoting skin elasticity, texture refinement, and hydration restoration. With minimal downtime and long-lasting results, PDRN represents a safe and effective option for individuals seeking to attain a more youthful and radiant complexion.

Types of acne scars for acne scar removal
Different types of scars require tailored treatments, as each responds uniquely based on its cause, depth, and skin healing characteristics.

Types Of Acne Scars

Atrophic acne scars are common occurrences amongst individuals suffering from acne. Most acne scar cases we see have a mixture of atrophic acne scarring pattern. Acne scar treatment takes into account the scar morphology, scar depth and your skin type.

Ice pick scars respond well to TCA CROSS and punch excisions. On the other hand, rolling scars treatment options include subcision and fractional resurfacing. Boxcar scars are amenable to TCA CROSS and fractional resurfacing.

PDRN S Acne Scars treatment are a good complement to further improve the appearance of your acne scars.

How does PDRN S work for acne scars?

PDRN S improves acne scars through a multi-faceted approach that targets various aspects of scar tissue and skin regeneration. Here's a more detailed explanation of how PDRN S works to improve acne scars:

  • Stimulation of Collagen Production: PDRN S contains polynucleotides (PNs) extracted from salmon DNA, which are potent stimulators of collagen production. Collagen is a structural protein in the skin responsible for its strength and elasticity. By injecting PDRN S into the skin affected by acne scars, the PNs stimulate fibroblast activity, prompting the production of new collagen fibres. This increased collagen synthesis helps to fill in depressed acne scars, improving their appearance and texture over time.

  • Enhanced Skin Healing and Repair: The PNs in PDRN S also promote the skin's natural healing and repair processes. They accelerate the turnover of skin cells, leading to the removal of damaged tissue and the formation of new, healthy skin. This process helps to smooth out the surface of the skin and reduce the depth of acne scars, resulting in a more even skin texture.

  • Improvement of Skin Elasticity and Firmness: In addition to collagen production, PDRN S enhances the synthesis of elastin, another crucial protein in the skin that contributes to its elasticity and firmness. By increasing elastin production, PDRN S helps to restore the skin's resilience and suppleness, which can further improve the appearance of acne scars by minimising their visibility and promoting a smoother skin surface.

  • Reduction of Inflammation and Pigmentation: Acne scars are often associated with inflammation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which can exacerbate their appearance. PDRN S has anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce redness, swelling, and irritation associated with acne scars. Additionally, it regulates melanin production, leading to a reduction in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and a more even skin tone.

  • Long-lasting Results: Unlike some temporary solutions for acne scars, such as fillers or laser treatments, PDRN S offers long-lasting results. As the new collagen and elastin fibers continue to mature and integrate into the skin's structure, the improvements achieved with PDRN S treatment can persist for an extended period, providing lasting benefits for individuals struggling with acne scars.

PDRN S

PDRN S is specially formulated for the treatment of depressed and atrophic acne scars. Dr Ng. uses PDRN S in conjunction with other scar resurfacing modalities such as subcision, fractional laser and energy-based resurfacing.

  • PN; High viscosity gel
  • Depressed and Atrophic Acne Scars
  • 1ml/syringe

When combined with subcision for acne scars, PDRN S helps to promote wound healing by acting as a scaffold for tissue remodelling and regeneration. Owing to it bio-compatibility, patients can expect minimal downtimes and fast recovery.

PDRN I

PDRN I is a low viscosity product. It spreads out easily in delicate areas around the eyes. It helps restore the extracellular matrix and improves elasticity around the eyes.

  • PN; Low viscosity gel
  • Crow's feet and fine peri-orbtial wrinkles
  • 1ml/syringe

Dr. Ng often combines PDRN I with other aesthetic procedures such as botulinum toxin to relax the underlying muscles and/or lasers/ energy-based devices to tighten the peri-orbital region.

Subcision and PDRN S for Acne Scars

subcision procedure
Subcision for acne scars

Subcision is a surgical technique to release deeply tethered acne scars through a small wound entry. This can be achieved with either a hypodermic needle, a special Nokor needle or even a blunt cannula.

Before your treatment, Dr Moses Ng will discuss if you are a suitable candidate for this combination procedure. From experience, this is done for selected deep rolling scars to enhance wound healing, collagen remodeling and acne scar resurfacing.

After subcision is done, a small amount of PDRN S is introduced via an intradermal approach to the base of the scar for support. This acts as a scaffold and sets the stage for the healing process to take place.

How is a PDRN S Acne Scars Procedure Done?

  1. Consultation: The process begins with a consultation with your doctor. During this consultation, the practitioner will assess the severity and type of acne scars, discuss your concerns and goals, and determine if PDRN S is suitable for you.

  2. Preparation: Before the procedure, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, oil, or debris. A topical numbing cream is applied to minimise discomfort during the procedure.

  3. Injection: PDRN S is administered via microinjections using a very fine needle. The injections are strategically targeted at the areas of the skin affected by acne scars. The depth and distribution of the injections may vary depending on the specific type and severity of the scars being treated.

  4. Post-treatment care: After the procedure, you will be provided with instructions for post-treatment care. This may include avoiding sun exposure, using gentle skincare products, and refraining from activities that could irritate the skin. It's essential to follow these instructions carefully to optimise the results and minimise the risk of complications.

  5. Follow-up: Depending on your individual response to treatment, multiple sessions of PDRN S may be recommended, spaced several weeks apart. Your practitioner will monitor your progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed to achieve the desired outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions About PDRN S

Is there any downtime with PDRN S acne scars treatment?

There may be mild transient redness, swelling and itchiness following the procedure. Needle marks will fade within 2-3 days. Bruising is minimal with PDRN S acne scars treatment. You can resume normal activities in a few days and makeup can usually be used the next day.

How many PDRN S treatments will I need?

The first 3 treatments are done at 4 weekly interval. Thereafter, PDRN S Acne Scars or PDRN Healer may be done every 6-9 months to improve the overall skin appearance.

Is PDRN S suitable for all scar types?

Scars differ in their morphologic subtypes (rolling, boxcar, ice-pick), depth and maturity. We usually recommend treating deeper scars first before tackling more superficial scars. A consultation for assessment is necessary to identify the scar type and treatment options suitable.

By itself, PDRN S will not improve deep rolling and ice pick scars. These are treated with subcision and TCA CROSS respectively. PDRN S treatment is useful to assist the primary treatment method instead of being used as monotherapy for deeper scar types.

Can PDRN treatment be used for other areas?

Yes. PDRN S is useful to treat deep wrinkles in the peri-oral and Crow’s feet region.

PDRN S is also able to rejuvenate the neck, decollete and hands.

Is PDRN S suitable for all skin types?

PDRN S is generally safe for all skin types. However, it’s essential to consult with your doctor to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the treatment, as individual skin conditions and medical history may influence candidacy.

When will I see results from PDRN S treatment?

Results from PDRN S treatment may become noticeable gradually over several weeks as the skin’s natural healing process takes effect. Continued improvement can be observed over time with each subsequent treatment session.

Who is a suitable candidate for PDRN S acne scar treatment?

PDRN S is suitable for individuals with acne scars who are looking to improve the texture and appearance of their skin. However, pregnant or breastfeeding women and individuals with certain medical conditions may not be suitable candidates. A consultation with your doctor is necessary to determine candidacy and develop a personalised treatment plan.

What is the cost of the PDRN S Treatment?

PDRN S Acne Scars treatment starts at about $500 per 1ml syringe.
